Our Dispute Resolution group are seeking a Construction Senior Associate.

The role

Our Melbourne Construction team are currently recruiting a Senior Associate with proven experience advising on construction and engineering disputes.

Working closely with Amy Munro and Domenic Gatto, this role will see you providing advice on a diverse range of matters in a team that is on a growth trajectory. You will be exposed to our wider Dispute Resolution practice group, giving you the opportunity to collaborate with industry leaders and specialists within their chosen fields.

As a senior member of the team you will have a vast level of responsibility, including running your own matters, high level of client contact and mentoring junior lawyers in the group.

Our work

You will be responsible for varied challenging complex legal work which often sets the pace in the market. In this role you will perform work on disputes in the Victorian Supreme Court, the Federal Court, as well as domestic and international arbitrations.

Our clients

The team’s client list is the envy of many of our competitors. Our clients are involved in some of Australia’s largest construction, resources and infrastructure projects and whilst they tend to be the construction contractors, we also act for principals. Outside of the construction space, we work with key domestic and overseas clients in the financial services and energy & resources sectors including well known investment banks, miners and professional service firms.

About the team
Working closely together is vital to the success of our friendly team. We regularly work with specialists from other practice groups as well as other centres within the KWM network and we use sophisticated electronic tools to assist us. Our workload is varied and interesting, we act in most of Australia's large and complex construction and projects disputes and also have involvement in significant commercial and regulatory disputes, investigations and public inquiries. When a judgment is handed down or a case resolves you have a real sense of accomplishment knowing that you were part of the team putting the case together.

You will have

  • Construction disputes experience in Victoria
  • Excellent analytical, communication and research skills - to contribute to the delivery of prompt and commercially astute advice.
  • First rate experience of drafting documents (including writs, statement of claims, default judgments, defences, witness statements, affidavits, complaints, agreements etc.).
  • A commitment to developing innovative solutions and outcomes to resolve disputes.
  • You will have recognised Victorian litigation/ arbitration and general dispute resolution experience gained in a similar environment with similar high profile clients and matters and enjoy working as part of a committed team.
  • Strong commitment to client service and well-developed relationship management ability - you will play a role in supporting and actively developing our relationships with clients.
  • Team focus - to facilitate effective teamwork by developing strong internal relationships both within and outside the Melbourne centre and to mentor junior colleagues and ensure the effective utilisation of the group

Enthusiasm to be involved in business development activities - participating in industry related programs and developing strategic relationships and networks.
