MEDIATION: ONE OPTION OF SUCCESSFULLY MANAGING CONFLICT IN THE WORKPLACE

Following on from last weeks article on conflict in the workplace, this week we are exploring mediation as an effective option when used in the workplace to address conflict between employees.

  • Mediation is a process that attempts to bring about a peaceful settlement or compromise between hostile parties and to help them move towards a resolution.
  • The Mediator is a neutral party who facilitates this process through an objective position. The role of mediator may be formally appointed or informally assumed.

As a neutral and independent party to a problem situation, the person assuming the role of mediator is not usually directly involved. Their only involvement should be in their attempts to assist the employees who are experiencing conflict to find a way forward; that will enable both parties to accept a solution or compromise that satisfies them both.

i.e. they must not be seen to "take sides"

Brush up on your multi skills and get a job offer

The demand for multi skilled staff is increasing in the aftermarth of the GFC...

If you read our job adverts you can see evidence of this trend.

Employers are now looking for staff that can cross over into all sorts of roles.. if you are prepared to do this.. and if you upskill your basic skills... you are are highly valuable to the right employer.

Our thought for the day:

I don’t know what the key to success is, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone.

Strengths and weaknesses, we all have them

We all have strengths and weaknesses, we love to tell everybody about our strengths, but we hide our weaknesses.

This in its self.. is a major weakness, and not a good trait for a prospective employee to display..

Recruiters need to know what your weaknesses are, because if you get the job, your new employer needs to know how to manager you.. thats if you want the job to be long term and satisfying.

If you don't want to be honest, and you only want a short term job..  keep your weaknesses to yourself..

Our advice... admit your weaknesses..  and enjoy your new job, it only takes 3 weeks before your weaknesses are exposed.
